HBO’s new documentary puts cryptography expert Len Sassaman forward as the possible founder of Bitcoin.

This new HBO movie has again brought into question the probable real identity of the mysterious creator of Bitcoin, though the frontrunners are quickly rising and one of the most hotly tipped at the moment is the sad and passionate figure of Leonard “Len” Sassaman among the cognoscenti of crypto cash and the prediction markets.

The documentary, titled “Money Electric: And with that teaser, filmmaker Cullen Hoback unveiled “The Bitcoin Mystery,” on Oct. 3, another episode in his portfolio that also includes an HBO series about QAnon conspiracy theorists.

While the trailer doesn’t directly state any candidate’s name, prediction markets have not remained shy about their strong opinions. At the moment, 44.5% of the participants on Polymarket believe that Sassaman can be Satoshi Nakamoto, the creator of Bitcoin.

Sassaman is a very interesting subject for this theory given his background. Sassaman, a cryptography prodigy from Pennsylvania was part of the cypherpunk Sanctum in San Francisco when he was still a teenager. That’s right, and his list of achievements is quite rich: he studied under David Chaum, the so-called “godfather of crypto”. Sassaman also developed major contributions to the privacy technologies, such as working the partially on the Pretty Good Privacy (PGP) software for secure messaging.

Another interesting aspect is that Satoshi Nakamoto disappeared exactly when Bitcoin began to attract attention. Satoshi Nakamoto’s last known interaction with the Bitcoin community took place on 23rd of April 2011, about two months before s Craig Steven “Sassaman,” who took his own life at 31 years of age. Such timing has not escaped the attention of those digging up history behind the creation of Bitcoin.

While Sassaman has received a fair amount of support as the possible candidate, other people often linked to the identity of Satoshi Nakamoto still linger in mentions. Among them are Hal Finney, Adam Back, Nick Szabo, and Paul Le Roux; however, Sassaman now receives significantly more coverage than those.

The show also pledge to delve deeper into these theories and more, as to the identity of the person who created Bitcoin. Thus, regardless of whether Sassaman will be connected with Bitcoin or not in the future, he has already associated his talent as a brilliant cryptographer with one of the main legends of present-day digital world.
